Traveling Mailbox vs Anytime Mailbox
These two get compared constantly, and they're built in opposite ways. Traveling Mailbox is one company with one price list, and its own staff process every letter at a single center in Sanford, North Carolina. Anytime Mailbox is a software platform: each address belongs to an independent local mail center that sets its own plans and fees. So "which is cheaper" has no single answer for Anytime Mailbox. To make it concrete, we opened every North Carolina Anytime Mailbox listing (Traveling Mailbox's home state) on October 30, 2026, read the 27 rate cards that loaded, and priced the same three months at both.
Affiliate disclosure: we're an approved Traveling Mailbox affiliate, so if you sign up through our Traveling Mailbox link we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. We have no deal with Anytime Mailbox. That doesn't change any figure here, including the cases where Anytime Mailbox comes out cheaper. How we make money.

What 27 real Anytime Mailbox rate cards say
Anytime Mailbox's North Carolina page listed 79 locations on October 30, 2026, with "starting from" prices of $7.99 to $49.99 a month; the median was $9.99, 43 were $9.99 or less, and 69 were under $15. [source] We opened every listing. 27 showed a plan table; the other 52 sent us to the general locations page instead, even on repeat tries, so we can't tell you their plans. Here's the cheapest plan at the 27 that loaded:
| What the cheapest plan looked like | Locations |
|---|---|
| $9.99: 15 or 30 items, 5 page scans, $5 per shipping bundle, 1 recipient (some allow 4) | 13 |
| $9.99 "Starter": 5 items, 5 opens, $9 forwarding | 2 |
| $9.99 or $10.99: 30 items, pay per scan ($1.00 per open, or $1.50 per page), forwarding listed as "Unlimited" | 2 |
| $12.99 to $15.99: 10 to 60 items, 5 to 15 scans, $2 to $5 per bundle or "No handling fees" | 6 |
| $19.99 and up (a downtown Charlotte address at $19.99 with $1 per scanned page; others at $26.99 and $49.99) | 4 |
At about the same price as Traveling Mailbox Basic, the typical North Carolina card is a $14.99 "Silver" plan: 30 or 60 items, 10 page scans, usually 2 recipients and $5 per shipping bundle. [example: Cary] [example: Durham] Traveling Mailbox's $15 plan has 40 envelopes, 35 page scans and 3 recipients, with $2 forwarding. [source] One wording trap: some Anytime Mailbox cards count "pages" and others count opens ("5 / month"), and an open can be many pages. Check which one your card uses.
Only the plan summary is shown here. Each card also has a "Full Details" view with other fees; we didn't read those, so shredding, storage and overage prices for these locations aren't included. Raw data: 27 rate cards, 52 that wouldn't load, read Oct 30, 2026.

| Anytime Mailbox, Charlotte (W 4th St) [card] | Bronze $19.99, $1.00 per page | $23.99 |

| Anytime Mailbox, Fayetteville (Town Center Dr) [card] | Bronze $14.99 (20 items, 15 opens) + $2 bundle | $16.99 |
| Anytime Mailbox, Arden [card] | Bronze $9.99 + 5 opens × $1.00; forwarding "Unlimited" | $14.99 assumes "Unlimited" forwarding has no handling fee |
| Anytime Mailbox, Cary (Kildaire Farm Rd) [card] | Bronze $9.99 + $5 bundle; 10 pages over the 5 included | $14.99 + 10 extra pages (price not on the plan card) |
| Anytime Mailbox, Charlotte (W 4th St) [card] | Bronze $19.99 + 15 pages × $1.00 + $5 bundle | $39.99 |
| Option | Plan | Month |
|---|---|---|
| Traveling Mailbox | Extended $25 (100 envelopes, 80 page scans) + 2 × $2 | $29.00 |
| Anytime Mailbox, Arden [card] | Gold $25.99: unlimited mail, unlimited open & scan, forwarding "Unlimited" | $25.99 assumes "Unlimited" forwarding has no handling fee |
| Anytime Mailbox, Cary (Kildaire Farm Rd) [card] | Gold $29.99 (125 items, 20 page scans) + 2 × $5 | $39.99 + 60 extra pages (price not on the plan card) |
Traveling Mailbox on Basic for the heavy month would be $15 + 20 × $0.25 + 45 × $0.50 + $4 = $46.50, so moving up to Extended saves money. [source] The pattern holds across the cards we read: Anytime Mailbox's cheapest addresses beat Traveling Mailbox when you mostly glance at envelopes, a few generous locations (like Arden's all-unlimited Gold plan) beat it at every volume, and the typical $5-per-bundle, 5-to-10-page card falls behind once you scan or forward regularly. A 2022 Reddit post shows how per-action fees add up: one Anytime Mailbox location's itemized bill came to about $17 for a single 8-page letter. That's one location and one user, but it's the reason to read the card first. [Reddit]

Who actually handles your mail
Traveling Mailbox: its terms say "all mail and packages are processed at our central processing center located in Sanford, North Carolina." Mail sent to its other addresses is shipped to Sanford, "which may lead to delays in digitization", and it tells customers with time-sensitive documents to use the Sanford address. A package delivered to an address other than your package-center address carries a minimum $10 postage fee. [terms] Its addresses FAQ says every feature is available at every address because "all services" are done by its own US team. [addresses]
Anytime Mailbox: mail stays at the address you pick, handled by that location's operator, and the location's page lists which services it offers (for example open & scan, recycling, forwarding, shredding, check deposit and local pickup at the downtown Charlotte address). [example] Service quality depends on the operator; one r/digitalnomad thread discusses service getting worse, with experiences varying by location. [Reddit]
Form 1583, refunds and cancelling
| Traveling Mailbox | Anytime Mailbox | |
|---|---|---|
| USPS Form 1583 | Its Form 1583 page describes a video call with staff and says no notary is needed; its terms (last updated 11/22/2022) still say you "agree to submit a notarized USPS Form 1583". [Form 1583 page] [terms] | Notarized form; "Use Online Notary" connects you to a video call with a licensed notary for a "nominal fee" (amount not stated). [FAQ] [Form 1583 guide] |
| Refunds | On cancelling, "refunds shall be limited to the remaining portion of the current billing cycle"; annual plans "are refundable on a monthly schedule". [terms] [pricing FAQ] | Full refund within 30 days only if you never used the mailbox to receive mail or for any other purpose; none after 30 days. [FAQ] |
| Mail after you cancel | May hold and forward mail "for a period of not more than thirty (60) days" (the terms give both numbers) if you prepay postage and fees; otherwise mail may be returned or destroyed. [terms] | Stored up to six months from termination; storage and forwarding fees may apply. [FAQ] |
| Business use | "A Traveling Mailbox can be used for a business and you can add business names to any of the plans." [pricing FAQ] | "We don't recommend using your Anytime Mailbox address as your official business address." [home FAQ] |
| Payment | Card via its billing portal (no other method listed on the pages we read) | Credit card only (Visa, Mastercard, American Express); no PayPal. [FAQ] |
Both are commercial mail receiving agencies (CMRAs), so the USPS rules are the same either way: the address needs "PMB" or "#" plus your box number, and the form has to be on file before mail can be delivered. See our Form 1583 guide. If you plan to use the address with a bank, an LLC filing or a government form, read virtual mailbox for an LLC or bank account and USCIS, IRS and DMV rules first.
Which to pick
- Pick Anytime Mailbox if you get little mail and mostly need to see envelopes, want a street address in a specific town, or want to pick mail up in person. Open the exact location's page and compare its card with the tables above before you pay.
- Pick Traveling Mailbox if you scan most of what arrives, forward regularly, deposit paper checks, or want one fee schedule you can read once. Use the Sanford address unless you need another city; other addresses route through Sanford anyway.
- Neither fits? See the full comparison table of nine providers, check deposit fees, or whether a PO Box or UPS Store mailbox is enough. RVers and expats have extra rules: see the RV guide and the expat guide.
